The length of time it takes for the Social Security Administration (SSA) to make a decision after a Disability Consultative Examination (CE) varies depending on many factors, including how long it takes the doctor to file their report.
If your Disability application gets denied, a Greenville Social Security Disability lawyer from Pilzer Klein can help you file an appeal to get the benefits you deserve.
When you contact us, you’ll speak with a South Carolina attorney who focuses exclusively on Social Security Disability, and you will only pay us if we get your application approved.
How Long After a Disability Exam Will I Get the Decision?
The SSA takes its time on all disability applications, and there’s no way to know how long after a disability exam it will take to get a decision.
While you wait, some signs that you may be approved for Disability include:
- You provided substantial evidence of a serious medical condition
- You worked a physically demanding job and can’t switch to another profession
- You are no longer able to work and have an extensive work history
- You were hospitalized and see a specialist on a regular basis
- You have a lawyer representing you

Your Consultative Examination report includes a lot of information about you, your current and past medical history, and the results of the exam. Here’s a more detailed look at what the SSA will find in your CE report.
Identifying Information
The CE report must clearly identify you and include your birthdate, name, and Social Security number or non-SSN claim number. It must also verify that you provided proof of identity during your exam, such as a driver’s license or other state-issued photo identification.
Essentially, they want to see proof that you are who you say you are and that you didn’t send somebody else to the CE exam in your place.
Mental or Physical Examination
The CE report will contain details about the exam itself, like the examiner’s findings and test results. While the examiner may share their opinion about your ability to do particular work tasks, the report does not say whether or not you’re legally disabled.
The SSA will take the examiner’s findings into account while considering your entire case to decide whether you qualify for Disability.
Your Current Condition
The report will list the main impairments that you claim prevent you from working and should include things like:
- Your current symptoms
- The history of your impairment
- Treatments you’ve received and how they affected your condition
- Your description of how your condition affects your ability to function
- Your typical daily activities
- Anything that makes your condition worse or better
Your Past Medical History
This report also covers your entire medical history–especially as it relates to your disability–including:
- All available lab findings and exam results
- Relevant diagnostic procedures, surgeries, and hospitalizations
- All therapies you receive and all the medications you take for your condition, along with their side effects and benefits
What to Do if Your Disability Application Gets Denied
If your disability application gets denied the first time you apply, don’t fret. Most applications get denied the first time. You can still file an appeal.
Do you need a lawyer to appeal an SSDI denial? While you don’t need a South Carolina Disability lawyer to appeal an SSDI denial, a Pilzer Klein attorney can make the process easier to manage and more likely to be successful.
Additionally, if your case advances to an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) hearing, we can prepare you for what to expect, represent you, question witnesses, and argue for benefits claims on your behalf.
